A thirty-five-year old burglar was jailed at Basildon Magistrates’ Court today for more than three years for a break-in and an attempted burglary.
Edward Williams, of no fixed addresses, pleaded guilty to the charges of burglary, attempted burglary, and theft.
He broke into an address in Manor Road, Chigwell, from where £50, 000 worth of designer clothes and shoes were taken on October 7, 2017 and on October 8, 2017. CCTV footage also put Williams in the area of Magdalen Gardens, Hutton, where an attempted break-in took place a week later.
Detective Sergeant David Wilkinson, from Brentwood CID, said: ‘Edward Williams has little regard for other peoples’ property.’ When Essex police carried out a search warrant at an address in Rainham they found a number of items of designer clothing, later confirmed as belonging to the victim in Chigwell, a woman in her 20s.
Through further investigation, police were also able to connect William with the attempted burglary in Hutton, as a man who was seen outside the property was established to have connections with Williams.
Data released by the Essex police showed a 6 per cent drop in burglaries for last year compared to 2017, meaning there have been 791 fewer burglaries in the county for 2018. The 6% drop in burglaries is one of the biggest reductions in the country.
